Faro 1.3 release!
Hello everyone!
After a long silence, I'm overjoyed to announce that Faro has just reached its second-to-last update. I wanted to take a moment to share what's new and open up about what's been happening while I was away from the project.
What happened?
When I first started working on Faro, I was writing my Master's dissertation. I had big dreams—I wanted to go indie and start a game company from scratch. After graduating, I felt so free and happy. I was convinced I would capture gamers' hearts with my games. But life had other plans.
I needed to find a job, and to say the game industry was tough would be an understatement. I spent months sending out applications, hoping someone would at least reply, but nothing seemed to work. Then, finally, I found a job! I do enjoy my work, but after spending all day programming games, I just didn't have the energy to keep working on Faro in my free time.
October rolled around, and I thought Halloween would be the perfect time for a new Faro update. But life often doesn't go as planned. Before I knew it, October 27th had arrived, and I hadn't even touched the repository. When I finally opened the project, it didn't work. After an entire day of troubleshooting, I managed to fix the problem, only to face another issue—an exception occurred when launching the game. I was panicking. But with some persistent bug fixing, I overcame that issue too.
I wanted to promote the game more, but all I managed was to spend $20 on Instagram ads (half of the budget was spent on the image you see on this post) and try to find the best target audience. Suddenly, it was already October 31st. I did my best, so I have no regrets, but the journey was quite different from what I had in mind.
A huge thanks goes to OKGray, who did a full run of Faro just before I picked it up again. Your support truly lifted my spirits!
What's new?
Faro 1.3 contains:
- Developed a solid web build (this was the main focus of the update)
- Fixed a critical error that caused opening the gallery to crash the game
- Reworked the sound design for a better experience
- Fixed various English language errors
Conclusion
If you've played Faro, please let me know—it genuinely means the world to me. If you can leave a comment on the game, or if you really liked it, tell a good friend about it. Word of mouth is the best support I could ask for!
If you haven't played Faro yet, give it a try now! Or wait for the next update—I promise it won't take as long as this one did. I'm planning to publish the game on other platforms when the final update is released, and I will set a price to cover expenses and help finance a new side project. The final update will be free here on Itch for a limited time (probably one week), so those of you who discovered the game first can enjoy it!
Thank you all for your patience and support.
See you soon!
